Of course clearing the cache will get rid of all those stored addresses - but sometimes, you want to keep them!
In Firefox, all you have to do is use the arrow keys to move down to the entry you want to delete in the drop dropdown menu and press Delete (located under the Insert key on the keyboard)
See Cleaning up the address bar (http://johnbokma.com/firefox/cleaning-up-address-bar-firefox.html) for more details.
Internet Explorer makes it much harder to do (EVIL browser! :P) You can delete entries one by one via the Registry - but I really don't recommend this, unless you know what you're doing, because you can screw things up rather easily and corrupt the program :D
EditURLs (http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/) is a free program, that will help you delete and alter stored URLs in IE's history and search bars.
But yep, waaaaaay more fiddling around! *cough* Get Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/) *cough* :D
