Kitchen cupboards are cupboards. Closets are the miniature rooms you store clothes or supplies in--except the ones in the kitchen used to store food, which are pantries. The big free-standing piece of furniture used to hang clothes is usually called an armoire or a wardrobe, but they're not very common in the US.

Nope, no electric kettles for us! Many people have a stove-top kettle, but some people just heat water in a pot when needed. Obviously not tea drinkers. ;-) The must-have appliance for most US homes is the coffee maker, though I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't even have one of those.
