If an American's really writing in dialect, she's more likely to use "cuz" than "cos." (That can also be dialect for "cousin," so context matters, too. ;-)
Oh, yes, I recognize those as Britishisms, too! I should have added the "-t" versus "-ed" for verbs.
Just so you know, "wifebeater" shows up a lot on LJ for some reason, but it was always "tank top" where I grew up. And yes, we call it a gas pedal, or just say, "Step on the gas."
