Friday Funnies: To Confuse Three Homonyms

If you live in New York City or follow New York politics at all, you might remember the brief but memorable appearances of The Rent Is Too Damn High Party, a more or less real political party founded to make the point that...well, that rent is too damn high in New York City. The party's founder and primary spokesman is Jimmy McMillan, a gentleman noted for his sense of humor and amazing sideburns. He brings us today's Friday Funnies.





The fine distinctions between to, too, and two have been hashed out several times at Fandom Grammar, most recently in 2011.

To clarify things in my own mind, shouldn't it be "The amount of people who..."? I learned that 'who' applies to people, 'that' for objects.

The amount of people who sit in chairs.
The amount of books that are placed in chairs.

That is a tricky one! I probably would've rephrased the whole thing differently, honestly. Here's Grammar Girl (http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/who-versus-that) on the distinctions, as I don't think we've covered it and I'm not an expert in this area without some research. I think 'who' is better, though 'amount of people' is one of those gray areas. Would you mind if I used the question for an Answer sometime?
