I'm not quite sure what you mean.
If I'm interpreting correctly, when you come across a fic on LJ on a layout that makes it hard to read then just add ?style=mine to the existing URL in the address bar.
So for this post here:
http://community.livejournal.com/fandom_grammar/9516.html
just type ?style=mine right at the end:
http://community.livejournal.com/fandom_grammar/9516.html?style=mine
and hit enter. The page will refresh into your own layout.
