There's no intent to say one English is better than another! I apologize if it seemed that way. This is only meant to apply to fanfic writers who are writing about canon American characters/culture. It's jarring to see Jack O'Neill say, "Get through the gate, whilst I hold off the Jaffa!" Just as it is jarring to see Harry Potter finding out that Dudley is taking his SATs and choosing what college to go to. There is another post scheduled for one of our grammarians to write about what American writers tend to miss when writing in British-based fandoms.
